Emergency services attended the fire at a block of flats in northeast London  Credit: @LAS_HART A woman has died following a fire at a three-storey block of flats in northeast London, London Fire Brigade said. More than 70 firefighters were called to a fire in a flat in Chingford at 2.14am on Friday. Pictures from the scene show flames pouring out of the roof of the building in Connington Crescent. The building houses Connington Court and Connington House - both run by Sequence Care - which provide services to support adults with autism and other complex needs or behaviours, according to Care Quality Commission documents. Twelve people are understood to have left the block before the emergency services arrived. Station manager Keith Wilson said: "Firefighters have been working hard to contain the spread of the fire which has destroyed the roof. "Crews expect to be here into the day, tackling hot spots." The cause of the blaze is not yet known

Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting Photo: PA Wire/PA Images Leaders of the Commonwealth will discuss whether Prince Charles should succeed the Queen as head of the organisation when they meet behind closed doors at Windsor Castle later today. The Queen has  publicly endorsed Charles , giving his hopes of heading the 53-member body a boost. The Queen said it was her "sincere wish" that the Commonwealth "will decide that one day the Prince of Wales should carry on the important work started by my father in 1949". Charles' prospects appear good, but the succession is not automatic - it rests in the hands of the Commonwealth leaders and there has been no official confirmation that Charles will be offered the role on Friday. The question of succession arises as it has been widely assumed that the Queen, who celebrates her 92nd birthday on Saturday, is probably presiding over her last Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (Chogm) in person. ...

Supermarket Sweep.  Credit: PA TV presenter Dale Winton, best known for Dale's Supermarket Sweep, has died at the age of 62, his agent has confirmed. The popular gameshow host passed away at his home. In a statement, his agent said: "It is with great sadness that we can confirm the passing of Dale Winton who died at home earlier today [Wednesday]. "While we know many will share this terrible loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy at this time of grief." No further details about his death have been announced. The 62-year-old was one of Britain's best-loved hosts.  Credit: PA Many viewed Winton as one of TV's best hosts through the 1990s and 2000s. His Supermarket Sweep show, which saw contestants racing around a supermarket collecting items in a bid to win a cash prize, ran from 1993 to 2000.
